Aloha Means Goodbye

Can I get a hallelujah … the offseason is finally over! The 2010 NC State football season officially began yesterday as the Wolfpack opened fall camp. Nate Irving, Russell Wilson, and Jarvis Williams were voted team captains by their teammates. The Wolfpack also welcomed Syracuse transfer LB E.J. Carter to the program. Carter will have to sit out the season per NCAA regulations, but he did start eight games last year as a Freshman so he will be a very nice addition to the defense next season.

In a little bit of old news, the injury bug has hit the Pack already as projected starter Rashard Smith had surgery last week on the same knee he hurt in the Boston College game last year and will miss the entire 2010 season. TOB is already starting to accumulate excuses if the team underperforms yet again this year. TOB ran the injuries excuse so far into the ground this past offseason at Wolfpack Club Caravan stops, the Pigskin Preview, and the ACC Football Kickoff that I hope we have no more injuries this season just so he’ll have to find something else to talk about next offseason.

The Pack hasn’t received much love heading into the season. The ACC sportswriters picked the Pack to finish 4th in the Atlantic Division behind Florida State, Clemson, and Boston College in that order. On top of that the ACC sportswriters only voted one Pack player, George Bryan, to the preseason All-ACC team. Both of those have been the norm for every preseason rankings I’ve seen so far. Speaking of rankings, I’ll release my preseason ACC rankings in the next week or so, but here’s my post Spring ACC rankings to read again. My preseason rankings aren’t going to change much, if at all, but I will try to do a little more research and offer some better recaps of each team and more reasoning behind my selections.

Now that the season is fast approaching it’s time for me to buckle down, sacrifice some sleep, and blog my heart out. Make sure to bookmark this site and start checking it daily. I previously mentioned that I had a lot of new things in store for the site so here’s the first one, “Pack the Caption” nothing orginial except for a stretch of a title, but it’s my take on write the caption. I want to get a little more reader interaction and this seems like the best way to do it. I’ll post at least one picture a week from practice, pressers, games, etc. with what my caption would be and we’ll see if anybody can top it. Keep the captions short, candid, and funny. The winner will receive nothing, but I hope everyone will still participate. Anyway, here’s the first one (photo by N&O):

Coach, Wolfpack Unlimited isn't a clothing line ... understand?

Oh what the heck since this is the “Pack the Caption” debut let’s do one more (photo by N&O):

Hey guys, check out these disco moves ... Ah, ha, ha, ha. Stayin' alive. Stayin' alive.
