Last week against Louisville was very disappointing, to say the least. I was hoping to shut up all the haters that had been beating the weak non-conference schedule story into the ground. Of course we come out and play right into their narrative with a terrible game plan and even worse execution. Home games against teams that you are equal to or better than are games you must win if you want to elevate your program. Big missed opportunity for Coach Doeren & Company.
Enter tonight at Lane Stadium against a very down Virginia Tech team. With my brother now at Virginia Tech, I’ve watched the Hokies more than any team besides NC State this year. They are not very good. We need to regroup, play well, and get a good road win to get our season back on track. My non-expert observations are their OLine is not very good at all, the back 7 of their defense struggles with tackling and coverage, they don’t have any scary offensive weapons that should break huge plays against us, their special teams are very good (not quite peak “Beamerball” good but still very solid), and their DLine is very disruptive.
The difference maker for Virginia Tech could be Lane Stadium, but the Hokie faithful are very down on the program right now so I don’t expect Lane Stadium to be as loud and crazy as a normal night game. The mystique of Lane Stadium may be wearing off a little as the Hokies have lost 7 out of their last 8 home games against Power 5 teams. We need to continue that streak.
All signs in my biased head point to an NC State win, but the Vegas line sits at Virginia Tech -3. That really bothers me, but I’m holding strong, the better team prevails … Go Pack!!!
